SOMERVILLE, NJ - The first round of voting at the Somerset County Republican Convention last night left Mayor Anna Little tied with opponent Diane Gooch. A second round of voting nearly resulted in a tie vote again. Reports from officials conducting the vote indicated the difference came down to a single vote.
"It was an honor to address the convention committee for the 6th Congressional District in Somerset County this evening," said Mayor Anna Little. "The commitment of these Republicans to defeat Frank Pallone was evident and inspiring."
After announcing the voting results several Republican committee members approached Mayor Little. "You have to run in a Primary", said one committee delegate. "You are clearly the more qualified candidate. You have my support," said another.
Leigh-Ann Bellew, campaign manager and chairperson for Anna C. Little for Congress, Inc., confirmed Mayor Little's intent to file her petition as a candidate in the Republican Primary. "The grass roots support for Mayor Little is overwhelming," said Mrs. Bellew. "The people need to voice their opinion in the selection process. By running in the Primary Mayor Little will give them a choice."
