HIGHLANDS, NJ – Highlands Mayor, Anna Little, the Republican candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 6th Congressional District, salutes GOPAC Chairman Frank Donatelli and RNC Chairman Michael Steele for their timely statements about the irresponsible and unconsitutional “Obamacare” legislation passed by Congress last night.

In a press release earlier today, Mr. Donatelli states: "Obamacare is the most irresponsible piece of legislation ever passed by Congress. In one vote, Democrats have fatally weakened Medicare and Medicaid, created a new, but unsustainable health care entitlement, raised a host of new taxes and exploded the deficit even beyond the annual trillion dollar deficits this Administration is currently running."

In commentary released to Conservatives with Attitude today, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele states that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has used every procedural trick at her disposal to pass her health care legislation ensuring that the 111th Congress will live in infamy for authorizing a government seizure of the American health care industry , nationalizing a full one-sixth of our economy, and causing blunt trauma to our federal budget.

Mayor Anna Little joins with these Republican leaders in calling for all NJ State representatives to pass a NJ 10th Amendment Resolution nullifying “Obamacare”, and rendering this law inoperative and ineffective within the boundaries of the State of New Jersey. New Jersey's Assembly Concurrent Resolution 23 (ACR 23), introduced by Assemblyman Gary Chiusano, Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose and four co-sponsors, has this general effect and could be specifically amended to refer to the Healthcare Bill.

Nullification was advised strongly by many prominent founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison urged caution upon their fellow founders that if the federal government has the exclusive right to judge the extent of its powers, it will continue to grow.

The 10th Amendment to the US Constitution reads as follows. “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” This Amendment gives States the right to limit the legislation created by the Federal Government if the basis for the legislation is a power that was not delegated to the Federal Government by the US Constitution.

“Clearly Nancy Pelosi, President Obama, and the US Congress have overstepped their bounds in passing the health care bill voted upon by Congress last night. I urge all representatives in the NJ Assembly and Senate to nullify this legislation immediately by passing a 10th Amendment Resolution," said Mayor Little.

It is the will of the American People that the State of New Jersey and all states throughout the Union render the federal government's takeover of healthcare ineffective by using the 10th Amendment right to nullification. This legislative abomination must be promptly and expediently overturned by newly elected representatives in Washington in January 2011.

Mayor Little encourages the people within Congressional District 6 to contact their state representatives demanding that they send a clear message to Congress that it is the People of the United States to whom they must answer, and not their political cronies in Washington.

“In the tradition of our founding fathers, we must protect our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The government takeover of healthcare which occurred last night is in direct violation to all three of these basic rights. This tyranny must be stopped,” concluded Mayor Little.
